Optimal hair conditions for Soprano XLI treatment
• Laser hair removal will bring optimal efficacy on coarse pigmented hair where a maximum permanent hair reduction of up to 80%-90% can be obtained.
• The hair reduction rate will depend on the body location and on hair texture.
• The laser treatment only treats the effects of pilosity but not the root cause.
• The influence of hormonal changes could interfere with the growth cycle and stimulate follicles in a dormant stage.
• The hair reduction will only be transient on white and/or very fine vellus hair that would be lighter than the color of the skin.
Number of treatments:
• The hair cycle is complex and varies from the different body location.
• The number of sessions also depends on the skin type and the nature of the hair referring to the color and thickness.
• On average 6-12 treatments will be required per area and more for darker skin types.
Interval of treatments:
• Only growing and mature hair can effectively be treated. A minimum of 4-6 weeks for smaller body areas (underarm, face) and 6-8 weeks for larger areas (legs, back). After several treatments you might want to wait for hair re-growth before you book your appointment.
• Sun exposure – for an optimally effective and safe treatment, sun exposure, as well as the use of tanning beds must be stopped at least 2-3 weeks prior to treatment. One month before the treatment apply 30+SPF sun block regularly to areas which are exposed to the sun.
• The intake of sun activators or the use of chemicals – self tanning lotions must be stopped 2 weeks before your treatment.
• Medication and/or nutritional supplements – It is very important to mention all the medication and/ or nutritional supplements you take. Some of the ingredients might be photosensitive and could cause pigmentation.
• Skin preparation – prior treatment skin must be thoroughly cleaned with either soapy water or a mild cleansing agent. Neither make-up nor fragrance remains. If you have applied any essential oils or have had a recent aromatherapy bath or massage, it is very important you mention it.
• The area to be treated should ideally be shaved the day before the treatment. If not, it will be shaved the same day. If shaving is not tolerated on facial areas for instance, depilatory creams could be used.
• It is very important not to remove the hair from the follicle (wax, pluck, thread) at least 3 weeks prior to treatment. You can remove the hair from the surface only! (shave, depilate or trim).
• The use of bleaching creams must be stopped at least 3 weeks prior to treatment.
• During the treatment you will feel a warm “prickling”, this sensation only lasts for the duration of the treatment.
• On dense areas, a peri-follicular erythema/edema (redness/swollen) may take place and will last for a few hours with a light sun burn feel.
• Sun Exposure – you must protect your skin with SPF30+ sun block and avoid any sun exposure as this could lead to the development of a post-treatment pigmentation.
• Skin care – immediately after the treatment, a soothing cream / gel may be applied to calm the skin. Make-up, fragrance or deodorant may only be applied the day after treatment.
• It is important to moisture your skin properly (Aloe Vera-based for instance)
• In the week following the treatment you will experience a phenomenon similar to “re-growth”, which is the hair shaft part which comes out before falling.
• The re-growth time needed for the remaining hair becomes longer from treatment to treatment and the remaining hair turns finer.
• Between treatments do not trim the hair by using tweezers, waxing or electrolysis as it will interfere with the hair cycle. Only shaving, depilatory creams and trimming are allowed.
• Not observing the guidelines especially related to sun exposure may lead to transient but long lasting hypo/ hyper-pigmentation that may last on average 3 months.
• On sensitive areas, an edema may develop but will remain for no longer than 2 days.
• Some spots may lead to a purpura or micro-crusting that will remain for 3 to 5 days after the treatment. It is very
important not to rub the skin or expose it to the sun.
